Clean Make-up Products that I’m Loving Right now!

When it comes to non-toxic make-up my sister, Madison, is quite the guru. She has tried it all and then some and she has become my non-toxic make-up guide in life. She came over and brought all of her favorite products so that we could compile ours together and share some products with you that we’ve tried and that we love!

This is just some of the basics… foundation, eyeliner, mascara, concealer, etc. We didn’t go too far in depth into eye shadows and lipsticks and some other more glamorous products because… well, that’s a whole other ball game. We tried to keep it with some of the basic essentials that we really really love to get you started on non-toxic makeup 101.

Here is my thing with the whole non-toxic makeup trend. I am totally buying into it and I do want to put clean products on my face. To be honest, since I have started making the switch, I am noticed that my skin is more vibrant and healthy. But I am going to shoot you guys straight right here: It’s hard for me to say goodbye to other toxic beauty products that are just way better than the non-toxic stuff. So these products here, they are as good as the toxic stuff in my opinion.

And yes, for you super knowledgable non-toxic beauty people.. I realize that a few of these products are not 100% clean (like the honest company + Beauty Counter products, specifically); however, these products are so much cleaner than what we have all been using in the past and I love and respect these companies for all that they are doing in the beauty industry. Transitioning over to non-toxic beauty and learning everything there is to know about what is and what isn’t perfectly pure for your body is a lot, not to mention, learning which products work on my super sensitive skin is a whole other battle. There is so much to learn and you can only try so many products at once, am I right? So as I continue to try and learn about new products I promise each of you to be honest and share with you the products that I love. And I hope you can appreciate that from me 🙂

Also, are you wondering if the products you are currently using are toxic and if so, how toxic are they exactly? Try downloading the ThinkDirty App. I absolutely love it! I just plug in whatever product I want to read into and it will give you a rating, 1 being super non-toxic, and 10 being toxic AF.

As I said before, today I am narrowing it down to some of the make-up basics… but in the near future I will be sharing skincare, deodorants, haircare, and more! So stay tuned.

Crunchi Beautifully Flawless Foundation and Primer — Madison – “I’ve never really known what all the fuss is with primers but this one is totally worth it. Honestly, I love all things Crunchi brand! Start with a dime size of this primer all over face then use the Crunchi Foundation brush (link below) with a pump of the flawless foundation and your skin will be looking FLAWLESS! Definitely the best clean foundation out there.”

Crunchi Flawless Foundation Flat Top Brush – Madison “you can’t have the foundation without this brush. Yes, it truly makes a difference with how your foundation applies. Try applying with circular motions on face for the best smooth finish. ”

Honest Company Contour + Highlight Kit – Madison and I both use this one, not daily, but it is great for a night out!

Honest Luminizing Powder — aka BRONZER.

Hynt Beauty Duet Perfecting Concealer  – the best green beauty concealer out there! First, I apply my daily SPF moisturizer to face (linked below) then I apply this concealer directly on blemishes and dark spots. Then, I apply my foundation. Remember, a tiny bit of this concealer goes a long way!

Lily Lolo Black Vegan Mascara – If someone were to ask me which beauty product I couldn’t live without, it’s mascara. I am about as picky as it gets when it comes to good mascara and this lily lolo is really good. I’ve tried so many and hated them all until this one!

Beautycounter Color Define Brow Pencil– Use for filling in those gaps and get those BROWS ON FLEEK!

Honest Company Eyeliner Pencil– This is my favorite eyeliner because I love using a smudge tip for a smoky look. Truly Cocoa is my favorite color.

Beautycounter Color Sweep Blush – I love this blush! It adds the perfect amount of color for naturally sun kissed looking cheeks.

Antonym Brushes– cruelty free, certified vegan (meaning no animal products or testing on animals).  The bristles are seriously so soft so if you’re needing new brushes then I definitely recommend this brand! Pictured is the Powder brush #1, blush brush #2 and contour brush #3.

100 Percent Pure Fruit Pigmented Foundation Powder– super lightweight powder with super clean ingredients! I’m shade Peach Bisque.

w3ll people concealor – I use the ‘fair’ tint since I’m using it for under eye brightening! I apply a few dots under each eye and blend with a blender brush.

W3ll People Bronzer Stick -get for highlighting and getting that dewy look.  Use on the bridge of nose, cheek bones and forehead. You can use the Crunchi foundation flat top brush to smooth out harsh lines after application.

Kypris Pot of Shade: Heliotrophic – SPF30 Sunscreen & Primer that sits fabulously under makeup or just worn alone!

Buca Botanicals Camellia & Rose Face Serum- my favorite product like…ever! before I do anything, right after I wash my face in the morning I use this as a moisturizer for the day. It gives your skin beautiful, dewy face fresh glow throughout the day! AND use my discount code “thedefineddish” at checkout for 15% off your purchase at Buca Botanicals!

RMS products are my absolute fave. The living luminizer and the lip-2-cheek (color: illusive). Also super into olio e osso (color: no. 5) and ilia (color: at last). Can’t seem to find good, clean eyeliner and mascara. Recently tried juice beauty, and wouldn’t recommend either.

I love posts like these because I’m big into green/eco beauty!! Rms beauty is probably my favorite brand–I swear by the uncoverup and unpowder ?? Also Han cosmetics makes amazing eyeshadows, and blushes–and they are very reasonably priced! Bite beauty is probably not THE cleanest brand but I can’t live without their amuse Bouche lipsticks–they are SO good

Instagram fam here wanting to let you know I Loved the post. Gabriel Cosmetics have some nice non-toxic foundations and powders and Plain Jane Beauty also has a nice range of clean foundations (in many shades which is often a problem with clean beauty brands never going darker than like beige ?), powders, eye shadows, blushes, and lip products in a wide variety of colors.

Wow! I thought Beauty Counter was one of the cleanest lines you could buy from – at least they advertise that way. Are you saying “it ain’t necessarily so”?

Vicki, no it absolutely is one of the “cleaner” lines out there. I’ve been reading a bunch lately though and they have a few ingredients that are of very moderate concern (phenoxyethanol, dimethicone, and sodium benzoate), which totally depends on your tolerance of toxins/synthetic ingredients. Personally, I am perfectly fine with it I just know that there are some very well educated readers on this topic and wanted to make sure I covered my bases when recommending their products if that makes sense.
And honestly, after reading more Beauty Counter does a good job at claiming that aren’t the “cleanest” on the block,(even though they are SO much better than the products we are used to using) and I absolutely salute their company for all they do in the making our beauty products cleaner and they also do a great job lobbying in DC for more stringent regulations on beauty products! so yay to that!! Hope that clears that topic up!

I’m a huge fan of Pacifica products. They have THE absolute best waterproof mascara. They only call it water-resistant but I tested 5+ fancy conventional waterproof mascaras last summer in preparation for a trip to mexico and Pacifica’s all-natural one outperformed them all. I think if a mascara calls itself waterproof that shouldn’t just mean “may last through a humid day or you can cry a little and be okay.” I am a swimmer and I want to be able to be underwater for an hour (not consecutively of course. ha!) and emerge not looking like a raccoon. Pacifica’s did this and it’s awesome. I also love their CC cream, tinted lip balms, and eyeshadows (great color payoff!) I swear I don’t work for them….I’m just a big fan. I have also heard great things about Juice Beauty’s make-up line and want to try it soon. And PS: I can’t get that Buca Botanicals site to load anything! I want to check it out.

Do you use both the hynt concealer and well concealer under your eyes? Will be ordering one or both to try.

My sister uses the Hynt for blemishes and the w3ll for undereyes. I just use W3ll for both, but just bought the hynt to try but literally just came in the mail today so I can’t say which one I think is better. My sister prefers Hynt. I’d suggest just getting one, both are fantastic so you can’t go wrong!!

I have just started switching to cleaner makeup and i’m glad to see their are so many to pick from. I was wondering if you have any advice on a “clean” way to remove makeup? So many cleansers and makeup remover towels are filled with chemicals, do you have any suggestions on a “clean” make up remover?

I loved this post!! I have two questions for you. I have quite dark under eyes, and have never found a good concealer. I’m sensitive to coconut, and the w3ll one has coconut but the Hynt does not. Would you recommend the Hynt for dark under eyes? And, what product do you use to wash your face? Thanks!!

Hi Melissa! Yes, the hynt will be great for dark undereyes for sure!! So, I am working on my skincare post to share with y’all which will have more info, but I currently use Kypris cleanser (as my skin is super sensitive) right now and I really like it, but am honestly still looking for something I LOVE. I think it is a little too milky and want something that soaps up a little more.
My sister, who has more problematic, acne prone skin, LOVES this Fit glow cleanser. https://www.theorganicbunny.com/product/fitglow-vita-active-cleanser/
